Weighing Scales Ltd growth story
Weighing Scales Ltd was founded in 2006 by John Gannon and Janet Marsden. Working in the scale industry we knew that the existing scale market provided poor service to customers and we knew that we could do better. We started with a bank loan, an old van, a set of traceable weights, a PC and Janet’s dining room table. We ate a lot of beans on toast in that first year, but what we lacked in finance we made up for with hard work and an unsinkable belief that we would be successful.
They say, “from small acorns huge oak trees grow” and Weighing Scales Ltd has grown 20% year on year from inception. Our successes include winning new start ‘business of the year 2007’ and a successful buyout of Adlab Services Ltd, a company specialising in the service and calibration of balances and the service of microscopes in universities and colleges. We gained ISO 9001 certification in 2013 and moved into new purpose built premises with a testing facility in 2015. In 2017, we achieved the new ISO 9001:2015 certification.
In June 2018, Janet took her retirement from Weighing Scales. She and John could think of no one better than our lead engineer, Daniel Wilmore, to take over the reins of Janet’s directorship to help run the business, so Dan willingly came on board.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Weighing Scales Ltd continued to service customers with key worker status and actually went on to record our most successful year of growth since our inception in 2006!
We deliver exceptional service to hundreds of customers in the UK and retain 99% of our contract customers year on year, because our service is excellent. We have extended our portfolio of services to include temperature and humidity testing and we look forward to an exciting future. We would love to welcome you to join in our success story.
